Terms of Use
Welcome to Quod Erat Ludendum (“QEL,” “we”), a math game jam operated by the Ross Mathematics Foundation. By using this site or submitting a game, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account or submit a game. We ask for your birth year at sign-in to check this.
2. Accounts
Accounts are created by signing in with GitHub. You are responsible for anything done through your account and for keeping your GitHub credentials secure. One person, one account — don’t create sockpuppets to inflate votes or evade moderation.
3. Your submissions
You keep the copyright to games, screenshots, descriptions, and other content you submit. By submitting, you grant QEL a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, promote, and distribute your submission on the QEL site and in related communications (for example, a “jam highlights” post) for as long as we run the site. You can withdraw your submission by asking us to remove it; see the retention section of the Privacy Policy for what that means in practice.
You promise that you have the right to submit what you submit — that you either created it or have permission for anything you incorporate (fonts, art, code libraries, sound, third-party math content, etc.), and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights.
4. Acceptable use
Please do not use QEL to:
- Post illegal, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or violent content.
- Post malware, phishing links, or anything designed to harm visitors’ devices.
- Infringe copyright, trademark, or other IP rights.
- Manipulate the voting — sockpuppets, vote trading, bot accounts, brigading.
- Spam, advertise, or run commercial promotions unrelated to your game.
- Attempt to break the site, scrape it at abusive rates, or bypass moderation.
5. Moderation
We may remove submissions, edit content, suspend accounts, or ban users who violate these terms or whose content is harmful, off-topic, or disruptive. We try to be fair and to explain moderation decisions, but we reserve final say. Voting results may be adjusted if we find fraud.
6. Third-party content
Games may link to or embed third-party sites (itch.io, YouTube, Vimeo, source repositories). We don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for their content, availability, or terms.
7. No warranty
QEL is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do our best to keep the site running and your data safe, but we make no warranties, express or implied, about uptime, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of any content, or that the site will be free of errors, bugs, or security issues.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, the Ross Mathematics Foundation, its directors, staff, volunteers, and contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of QEL. Our aggregate liability to you for any claim arising from these terms or your use of the site will not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars.
9. Termination
You can stop using QEL at any time and ask us to delete your account. We can suspend or terminate your access at any time for violations of these terms. The license you grant us in section 3 survives account deletion only to the extent needed to preserve the historical record of completed jams; you can also request full removal.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Franklin County, Ohio.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with a new effective date. Continued use of the site after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
